ROSEMARY

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is an aromatic, evergreen Mediterranean shrub prized for its culinary, ornamental, and medicinal uses.

Botanical Overview

Rosemary is a woody, perennial shrub with needle-like leaves and delicate blue, purple, or white flowers, belonging to the mint  family (Lamiaceae) after recent reclassification. It grows upright or trailing,  depending on the variety, and can reach 5 to 10 feet in height in ideal  conditions. The plant is drought-tolerant, bee  friendly, and thrives in warm, sunny locations with well drained, slightly alkaline soil.  

Planting and Care

                Sunlight: At least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily, preferably south-  facing. 

Soil: Well-draining, slightly alkaline; amend heavy clay with sand or gravel. 

Watering: Deep watering when the top inch of soil is dry; avoid  overwatering to prevent root rot. 

Fertilization: Light application of balanced fertilizer in spring is sufficient. 

Pruning: Annual pruning keeps the plant bushy and encourages new 
growth.
